UK parents could earn an average of £14,868 a year from being a taxi driver for their children, claims new research.
A survey of 2,000 parents conducted by used car dealer, The Car People, discovered that mums and dads travel an average of 250 miles a month for their children.
One in four parents say they feel like a taxi driver for their children, but almost half say that they enjoy their time in the car with their offspring, with 49% admitting that they have a good gossip.
A fifth of mums are happy to do this, as they worry whenever their child uses public transport.
More dads than mums say they feel like a taxi driver, however, the research shows that mums actually do most of the driving for their children.
What’s more, some two out of five of parents (43% ) think they will never stop giving their children lifts.
Almost half of dads say they give up their social life for their children. However, just under a third claim to have had important conversations in the car, and 61% say car journeys help them bond. Consequently, despite the phrase ‘Dad’s Taxi’ often being viewed as a negative – dads seem to enjoy it really.
